Volunteering Opportunities: Main Office in High Street, Strood

Advisor

Strood Community Project is seeking Advisors for our main advice centre.

Advice sought, ranges from how to get from A2B, completing benefit application forms (DLA, ESA etc.), debt management, homelessness and welfare benefit inquiries to name just a few. (Training is provided)

Desirable Skills:
Good listening skills, Understanding, Confident, IT user preferred (can offer training), Trustworthy, Non judgemental.

Information, Advice and Guidance

Strood Community Project offers free confidential support around helping people get back into employment, training and education. Writing of professional CV’s, covering and speculative letters. Developing action plans outlining the steps needed to reach your career and/or educational goals. Signposting people into training courses, (IT, Maths and English and other employment specific training).

Desirable Skills:
People skills, Listening skills, Capacity to show initiative, The ability to think on your feet, Computer skills preferable for creating word documents, producing CV’s etc (Training provided)

Foodbank Advisors

Strood Community Project is seeking Foodbank advisors who can assess the situation and make referrals where needed to other appropriate services. Provide emergency food parcels for clients in need. To be a listening ear.

Computer Skills/UK Online

Strood Community Project operates a drop in centre assisting people to use the internet whether for fun, social networking, or learning IT skills for future employment purposes.

Desirable Skills:
Basic computer skills and knowledge (further training is provided), Good interpersonal skills, Ability to patiently assist people as they learn to navigate the world of computers, A desire to share your skills and knowledge with others.

Receptionist

To provide a friendly welcome to visitors to Strood Community Project. To direct queries to the appropriate program in a sensitive manner. To answer and redirect incoming phone calls. To undertake administrative tasks depending on ability and experience (further training is provided).

Relief Volunteers

To be part of our Relief Bank to undertake occasional volunteering to cover for the unexpected unavailability (medical appointments, job interview etc) of our regular volunteers, primarily on Reception but also UK Online (our drop in computer clinic) and Foodbank. Volunteers may be called upon for a couple of hours/half a day every 4-8 weeks - perfect for those who would love to support SCP but cannot commit to regular volunteering

Volunteering Opportunities: Charity Shops in High Street, Strood

Retail Assistants

Serving customers, providing help and advice and creating a friendly welcoming environment. Working on the checkout, to operate the till correctly. To take delivery of donations, unpack, check and enter items on to the system. Display goods imaginatively for resale in the shop, taking an active interest in promotions and seasonal themes. General housekeeping such as keeping the shop clean and tidy and other associated tasks required.

Desirable Skills:
Good interpersonal skills, A smiley disposition, Experience of handing cash.

Van Driver

Strood Community Project requires drivers, making deliveries and collecting donations this incudes house clearances and removals. Assist in the charity shop as required.

Essential Skills:
Clean driving license, Over 30, Physically fit and in good health (heavy lifting is involved.
